Nuclear Cardiology

Ischaemic heart disease is a leading cause of death in the Western world. Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) has become the most useful technique in selecting patients for further examination with coronary angiography and revascularisation. MPI can define low-risk patients, whose outcomes cannot be improved, therefore requiring no further evaluation.

Our contribution in this field has been the development of improved methods for automated analysis of MPI scans. We have presented new image processing and artificial intelligence techniques, and established normal database of MPI scans. A cardiac toolbox based on our research is widely used in Japan.
